if you program and want any longevity to your work, make a game. all else recycles, but people rewrite architectures to keep games alive. – Why the Lucky Stiff
Archive.org has a section dedicated to software. Inside you’ll find The Internet Archive Console Living Room, which has details on some major games consoles from the late 70s and 1980s, including the Atari 2600 and the ColecoVision.
The great thing about this project is they’re trying to keep old software alive. You can browse through titles and play them in a browser. This is powered by jsmess (GitHub: jsmess / jsmess), an Emscripten-based emulator derived from MESS:
The JAVASCRIPT MESS project is a porting of the MESS emulator, a program that emulates hundreds of machine types, into the JavaScript language. The MESS program can emulate (or begin to emulate) a majority of home computers, and continues to be improved frequently. By porting this program into the standardized and cross-platform JavaScript language, it will be possible to turn computer history and experience into the same embeddable object as movies, documents, and audio.
Running a game binary requires a suitable BIOS, but the groundwork for lots of systems has been added to MESS:
MESS and MAME were started over a decade ago to provide ubiquitous, universal emulation of arcade/gaming machines (MAME) and general computer hardware (MESS). While specific emulation implementations exist that do specific machines better than MAME/MESS, no other project has the comprehensiveness and modularity. Modifications are consistently coming in, and emulation breadth and quality increases over time. In the case of MAME, pages exist listing machines it does not emulate.
Over the last two years there’s been a flood of new browser-based emulators, supporting everything from the Amiga to the Game Boy Advance. Part of what makes these project possible is recent technologies like Canvas, WebGL, WebAudio, and FileReader. But even seemingly less buzzwordy APIs like typed arrays can help get old games running smoothly.

We are glad to share with you the first Case Study with EasySocial installed to a live Joomla site.
GTAforums is a site where gamers of Grand Theft Auto (GTA) connect with other GTA fans in Denmark. The site uses EasySocial as a social networking hub for gamers of the same interest.
We managed to catch up with Lars Bredvig, owner of GTAforums to find out about his views on EasySocial. This was the conversation we had:
I choose to go with EasySocial for my project as it is the only component that really does the job I need it to do. I was looking for a component that could bring my site together in a way that users get a smooth experience when browsing through the site. I am using other products from Stackideas and those just integrate very nicely into EasySocial. So the choice of using EasySocial was a very easy one.
The changes I expected to get is a site that looks and feels like one, and not the kind of feeling you get when using a mix of products from other providers together. It never really feel and look like one unless you start making hacks and heavy styling to it. With your products, this was kept to an absolute minimum. My site is yet to get tested on speed and traffic so I expect this to happen when I go live with it during the end of December.
The way how your products look and feel when working with them. They are very feature rich when combined together and for what I need them for, they hit all the right notes in one go. Cannot stretch how many hours I have been looking for Joomla components like you guys made. It was a jungle out there!
You came up with products that is unique to Joomla in a way that others with similar products are miles behind you. EasySocial might not be as feature rich as JomSocial at present, but with the speed and talent at Stackideas, it is only a matter of time before you surpass them. I can already see now how far things are going in the latest version of EasySocial and I cannot wait for the next major release! I have purchased every component you had created and put them into my site. Without Stackideas, I would not have been able to create a site in this way.
We would like to thank Lars for the time spent to answer the questions and also provide us with the information on his site.
