Node 0.10.20 is out which means Node 0.10 is almost old enough to drink in most US states. How about that! This version fixes that annoying error that I seem to see when deploying to Heroku which reads: npm ERR! cb() never called
.
Asker (GitHub: nodules / asker, License: MIT, npm: asker) is a http.request
wrapper with retries, gzip decoding, and connection pool tuning. It was created by Phillip Kovalev for Yandex and is used on the auto.yandex.ru site.
Asker isn’t really a competitor to request, but a module designed around tailoring HTTP requests to comply with service level agreements. It makes certain things easier, like body encoding.
Node’s built-in HTTP connection pools are eschewed for a custom solution that allows you to prioritise services. This helps avoid situations where a critical service fails due to the exhaustion of TCP sockets. More is explained in the project’s readme file, and the project includes unit tests as well.
AbsurdJS (GitHub: krasimir / absurd, License: MIT, npm: absurd) by Krasimir Tsonev is a CSS preprocessor that converts JSON to CSS:
".navigation": {
margin: "12px 0 0 0 ",
type: "horizontal",
a: {
elementstyle: "button",
responsive: "true"
}
}
CSS isn’t all that different from JSON when you think about it, but you can’t easily include lumps of CSS in JavaScript files. AbsurdJS allows you to sidestep this problem by converting JSON to CSS. It includes a feature called storage that allows you to define custom properties that will be expanded to standard CSS.
There’s a detailed post about how it all works here: Write Your CSS with JavaScript.

We send almost all of the emails from OSTraining via a service called Mandrill.
Why would we use a 3rd party to deliver the email that our site creates?
In a word: Deliverability. Mandrill is run by the team at MailChimp and their entire business revolves around making sure that emails get delivered, rather han hitting the spam folder. We think that more of our site's users will get our emails if we rely on Mandrill. We weren't able to track stats with Joomla's default emails, but with Mandrill our deliverability is around 98.5%.
Here's how to use Mandrill on your Joomla site.
Now we have all the information we need. I generally keep this window or tab open for easy copy-and-paste into the Joomla configuration.
Copy-and-paste the details from Mandrill:
I like to test it out from the administrator side of Joomla.
You should now have email from your Joomla Site

This release is introducing SOFORT Banking, a popular payment solution in 10 european countries. We also integrated some bug fixes again, see the list[2] below.
Your customers simply pay in your online shop just as they are used to: by entering their familiar online banking login details and confirmation codes ensuring a maximum level of security. You will receive a real-time transaction confirmation immediately after the transfer has been listed.
SOFORT Banking[3] is a direct payment system and works like an automated advanced payment (by bank transfer) within seconds.
When shopping online, your customer selects SOFORT Banking as a payment method. Then, your customer selects his/her country and enters the bank sort code into a securely encrypted payment wizard. Afterwards, the customer enters his/her online banking login details and confirms the credit transfer by entering a confirmation code.

VirtueMart 2.1 beta is already "running" on Joomla! 3.1, but expect to see errors. Our version 2.1 has an improved customfield system and a better cart. These make it easier for template and plugin developers to change and manipulate the cart data, for example changing the weight or even the name of a product. Although this beta version is already running on Joomla! 3.x, it is not completly tested. We need people helping us to get the new version compatible for both, J2.5.x and J3.x.
If you are a 3rd party developer or just curious, please install VirtueMart 2.1 beta and let us know your experience in the forum[8].
